Local generation
Solar with storage is our starting point, with wind, hydro or bio-energy where the location suits.
Productive use of energy for growing communities in Uganda
We build local energy systems around what a community already does well, whether fishing, livestock or grain growing, alongside the cold storage, plants and mills that help local businesses earn more and grow income.

productive use
01 / Our approach
We start with the economic activity that already gives a community its strength, then build the local energy and enabling infrastructure that helps it go further: cold storage and ice plants for fishing and livestock communities, mills and production plants for grain-growing ones. Our aim is not to compete with local enterprise but to help it become more productive.
How we work
We identify the major economic activities in underserved communities and build relationships with the people behind them. Where key players already commercialise an activity, we partner with them. Where a key asset is missing, we build the enabling infrastructure that can grow market adoption.
We establish local generation using the energy source most suitable for the region. Solar is our starting point, with other sources considered as technology and opportunities for scale advance.
We work with distribution partners to build low-cost access, and anchor early demand in productive infrastructure. Energy can then reach households and the wider community as demand grows.
02 / The model in practice
Solar with storage is our starting point, with wind, hydro or bio-energy where the location suits.
Local distribution centres built with private-sector and government partners to lower the cost of reaching the last mile.
Cold storage, ice production, dairy plants, mills and production plants matched to what each community does best.
Partnerships with local players, distributors, government and development partners that strengthen enterprise and build purchasing power.
03 / Why it matters
46.6%of Ugandan households did not have access to electricity in 2024.
Koola Dynamics focuses on the last mile, building the local demand and distribution that can make reliable power affordable for more households over time.
Source: National Population and Housing Census 2024The thinking behind Koola Dynamics
Rural communities already hold the knowledge, relationships and enterprise to grow. What is often missing is the reliable energy and infrastructure that turns effort into more productive work.
Koola Dynamics starts with what a community already does well, then builds the energy and productive infrastructure around it. This helps local businesses earn more, strengthens demand for reliable power and makes access more likely to last.
